Optical extras demystified
Medicare provides a rebate for eye-exams either directly to you as the patient or directly to the Optometry Practice providing the eye exam. This is not the case for prescription glasses, sunglasses and contact lenses. This is where optical extras kicks in, if you have extras as part of your health insurance solution.
Making your Health Fund Claim
We make claiming your rebate easier than ever by breaking down your purchase into individual items and their respective item codes. This can be found on the receipt that will be sent to you via email once the order has been confirmed by us.

Benefit rollovers and annual limits?
Too much of a good thing, is...unsustainable!
Your extras benefits have an annual limit which will vary dramatically from basic all the way up to a comprehensive policy. If you have neglected to claim your Optical extras for an online purchase keep in mind that in most cases you are able to submit a claim for a purchase made 1 to 2 years prior. If this applies to you - it is worth a phone call, and before you bring us in on this, remember this varies between Health Insurance companies.
Benefit Rollovers or Optical benefit renewals in the majority of cases coincide with a new Calendar year rollover when your benefits magically reappear January 1st. In some cases this rollover occurs July 1st or on your signup date.
More ways to use your Optical Extras
You are a complex person with complex needs. You may not be a contact lens only or glasses only person. Your Optical extras are useful for a wide variety of Optical Products you need, such as:
- Prescription Contact lenses (which can include coloured or costume scripted contact lenses).
- Prescription glasses or sunglasses.

- Prescription swimming googles or prescription diving masks.

Mind the gap
